How it Works

At Artistic Spectrum Digital Communications, we have done the groundwork of establishing a program that children with ASD can benefit from, without parents having to pay anything out of pocket.

As of 2017, we are proud to be listed as authorized vendors with The Division of Developmental Disabilities’ Supports Program (DDDS) for the state of NJ.

What to Expect

The private art lessons offered on ASDC are available to all levels of learners, including basic, intermediate, and advanced artists. ASDC aims to keep lessons simple, short, and sweet to prevent burnout and frustration.

Why It Works

ASDC goes beyond what traditional art learning centers do. Our instructor, Asher, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at three years old. He shares some of the same limitations as our students.

He therefore knows what it’s like to live with autism and has an in-depth understanding of the challenges students face.

What we’re trying to say is that Asher “clicks” with children and adults on the spectrum.

But don’t take our word for it. Try it yourself.

Where to Enroll

Ready to sign up? Here’s how it’s done:

  1. To enroll and take advantage of this supplementary intervention, all you have to do is fill out an application form and our art tutor, Asher, will be in touch with you to go over the details.
  2. Schedule a weekly time and date that’s right for you.
  3. ASDC submits an invoice to The Division of Developmental Disabilities’ Supports Program (DDDS).

Art Helps Students

  • Find Their Voice
  • Overcome Sensory Issues
  • Understand Their World
  • Relieve Stress

This is just a brief rundown of the benefits of art programs for children with an ASD.

At Artistic Spectrum Digital Communications, our primary goal is to help our students find something they love to do.

Personalized Services

If a student has special requests or has a fascination with a specific character, tell us all about it and we’ll set up a custom lesson plan.

At the end of each private art session in New Jersey, we want to see that sparkle in students’ eyes!

One-on-One Learning

One of the main challenges children and adults on the spectrum face is difficulty communicating. We have seen time and again that when a relationship is built with a mentor, students typically get a better grasp of the lesson being taught – compared to group settings.

Asher is also one of the most whimsical art instructors you can find, which makes learning with him a thrilling adventure.

Overcome Sensory Issues

Autism experts generally use art to help students experiencing sensory issues get a better grasp on the world around them. Studies show that when students are repetitively exposed to a variety of textures, colors, and patterns, these become calming. In other words, students become used the stimuli and learn to better tolerate them.

Asher’s Background

ASDC’s tutor, Asher, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at three years of age. His parents researched the most practical programs to help him reach his fullest potential and decided that art was one of the most promising interventions available.

Asher credits art as the most prolific early intervention program he participated in. Throughout the years, art has helped him to overcome a multitude of challenges associated with Asperger’s Syndrome, including sensory issues, communication difficulties, and challenges understanding societal norms.

As an adult, Asher has made it his life’s mission to help local children and adults on the spectrum through the same art programs he learned in the past.

Lessons Learned

Your young artist will learn how to draw, paint, shade, and create anime characters. If you’re thinking this may be too much, don’t.

Asher breaks down each lesson into simple terms that anyone – even you – can understand.

For example, ASDC models lessons using basic shapes and lines to draw bigger pieces. It’s a fun activity that many of our young artists grow to love.

From learning how to draw a face to sketching Super Mario, ASDC’s art interventions are an extension of students’ vivid and wild imaginations!
